Six Sigma Overview - Philosophy PDF Print E-mail

Six Sigma is a business strategy focused on variation reduction and defect elimination. It provides a method to learn about our processes so that sources of variation can be identified and eliminated to enable the organization to ultimately exceed customer expectations. This philosophy generates financial business results through the linkage of business principles, engineering concepts, and statistical tools; and is not just another training or "quality program."

Although cost saving projects for continuous improvement have been around for a long time, Six Sigma differs in the sense that it pulls these many approaches together into a powerful methodology for managing processes. Thus, many of the concepts are similar to previous approaches to process improvement, but how they are integrated and implemented is unique. In addition, the visibility and savings achieved utilizing the Six Sigma philosophy exceed many of the prior attempts for process improvement.

Companies that have embraced and implemented Six Sigma as part of their business strategy have seen an astonishing bottom-line impact through their ability to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
